On Saturday the Italian media (including Corriere della Sera and La Republica: both in print editions only) published reports on Venice’s spring plight: due to school vacations, the city receives an enormous amount of student group bookings which strains the infrastructure.

Tourism Growth Shifts to Asia

According to the World Travel Trends Report from ITB Berlin and IPK International, the Asia Pacific region will continue to lead world tourism growth in 2008. This year’s Summer Olympic Games in Beijing are named as one of the factors.

70% of Leisure Travelers Book Online

via Internet Travel News. The online research agency Jupiter Research published a new study “US Travel Consumer Survey, 2007″. Their findings include an interesting statistic: 70% of “online leisure travelers” book at least some of their personal travel online and 52% purchase all or most of their personal travel online.

Buoyed By Strong Loonie, Canadians Travel More

With the Canadian dollar at its highest level in years, Canadians seem to have rediscovered foreign travel,  The Globe and Mail reported on Friday. This August saw at least 600,000 Canadians go overseas (trips to the United States are not included in this statistic).  

Among destinations popular with Canadian tourists are Spain, Italy, Croatia and Ireland.
